Mental and Emotional Health and Wellbeing

Mental and Emotional Health and Wellbeing

One in four people will suffer from a mental health problem over the course of a year and one in six employees is likely to suffer problems with stress, anxiety or depression  at any one time. Mental-ill health, such as depression and anxiety costs British businesses over £1000 per employee every year, or almost £30 billion across the UK economy. These problems are best addressed early, as when left they can develop in severity and cause a whole host of associated problems.

Mental Health First Aid training courses are one way your organisation can safeguard and protect the mental and emotional wellbeing of your employees, by enabling managers, supervisors and other employees to spot the early signs of a mental health problem and feel confident in guiding colleagues that come to help them. Early intervention reduces sick days and loss of productivity for those who continue to work while unwell.

In difficult financial times many organisations are finding they are stretched and have to cut back on psychologists and counselling. While this course this is certainly not to replace those services, it is invaluable in upskilling staff to be more confident in dealing with mental health issues both within others and themselves.

Courses Available

There are three Mental Health First Aid courses, designed to meet a variety of needs and organisations. Participants for each course will receive a manual and a certificate upon completion of the course.

Mental Health First Aid

The Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training courses teaches participants how to recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health issues, how to confidently deal with a crisis situation and how to spot the first signs of someone developing mental ill health. It also goes some way to developing the emotional resilience of the participants, which can be important in these difficult financial times.

Mental Health First Aid Lite

The Mental Health First Aid Lite course is a 3 hour introductory course into some of the more common mental health problems and techniques on how to support those affected. This can be an appropriate course for organisations or individuals who do not have the time to be able to sit the full Mental Health First Aid course.

Youth Mental Health First Aid

One in four people will suffer from a mental or emotional health problem in any year, 50% of these have their roots in the adolescent years or childhood. The Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training course provides information, tools and techniques to promote a young person's mental and emotional wellbeing. In addition to this it develops participants ability to confidently support a young person who might be experiencing mental and emotional distress, and to appropriately signpost onward to further help where relevant.
